Built on a juxtaposing combination of minimalistic beats and luscious chords, ZELAH’s ‘Static’ is a great way for the London duo to kick off 2020. Vocalist Zelah Van-Gowler explains the process behind the song, stating “my mindset when I sat down to write ‘Static’ was that I just wanted to convey the message in the simplest of ways”. That message is one of desire and connection to another person you are deeply connected to. There is a uniquely uplifting positivity in the track, with the airy production allowing for the message to portrayed through delightfully catchy vocal melodies throughout.
